Multiple Formatted Coursework

Over the course of the past year, we've received lots of feedback about our coursework.  The vast majority has been very positive and appreciative of the service we provide.  Probably the biggest area of negative feedback we've received, however, centers around the difficulty some people have in downloading and printing materials off of the internet.

Different computers, processors, ISP's, and software make it sometimes difficult to capture the materials we provide with our distance coursework.  As a result, we've looked into a number of different methods for creating faster, easier to use formats.

We now have all of our coursework available in hard copy formats as well as three web formats - html, .doc files, and Adobe PDF format.  While all are easy to use, PDF will undoubtedly provide you with the most web-friendly format around.  Many websites already use this very user friendly file format.  PDF format allows faster downloading, easier reading, and easier printing - you'll now know how many pages a course contains, and be able to select specific pages or sections rather than printing the entire document.  It does require that you have a copy of Adobe Reader on your system.

Many computers already have Adobe Reader.  If your systems doesn't have this program, it is available for free at Adobe's website.  Use this link to go to the download site:

You will need to register at the site, but there is no fee for this service.  The current version of Adobe Reader is 5.0, which became available on April 1, 2001.  If you haven't upgraded to 5.0, please be sure to do so.  Certain graphic and color features of our PDF documents may not be supported by earlier versions of Adobe Reader.

With Adobe Reader on your computer, you'll be able to download and view any PDF file that we post.  All PDF files we post will be indicated with the following icon:

There are two ways to download a PDF file.

  1. Single-click on the icon using your left mouse button.  You should be prompted to either save the document or open it for viewing.  If you choose to open the document from the website, the PDF file will download immediately.  Then, the Adobe Reader program will automatically open the file in a browser window for viewing and printing. This option makes the materials available for viewing and printing, but does not put them on the hard drive of your computer.  If you choose to save the document to your computer hard drive, you will be able to open and use the document at any time you need to.
  2. Using the right mouse button, click once on the icon.  A small menu will open.  Select the "save target as . . ." choice, and you'll be prompted to name the file to save on your computer hard drive.  This option puts the materials on your computer - making them accessible at any time.

(Please note: If you have an older version of the Adobe Reader program, you will find that a single-click with the left mouse button will not cause anything to happen.  You can still download and read the document, but would need to double-click.  This may also result in the inability to view certain graphic and color files.)

So, let's see if you have the Reader program already available.

First, download the document below by clicking on the following icon (click or double-click with the left mouse and run the file from our website - do not prompt your computer to save the document).  A new window should open and you should see a PDF document.

Adobe Information

If nothing happens, you don't have Adobe Reader on your system.  Scroll back to the top, click on the Adobe link, and access the free download.

If you saw the document we created, you have Adobe Reader.  Be sure to check to see what format your computer is running, and upgrade if necessary.

We do realize that this form of downloading information may be new to some of you.  If you encounter any problems or difficulties, don't hesitate to call us toll free at 866-471-1742, or contact us by e-mail at coordinator@dlcas.com .

Now Available - CR-ROM Formatted Coursework

Many students have told us that while PDF and .doc formats are easy to work with, different download speeds can make it difficult and time consuming to download coursework.  Many have asked about the availability of coursework on CD-ROM.  So, we've added this option - putting PDF formats, along with the Adobe Reader Program, on CD-ROM's that can be shipped to you at a lower cost option than hard copy formats.  This format is now one of the formats you can choose when ordering a course.

Our goal is to better serve you, and to make our coursework as easy to work with as possible.
