The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) has provided us with the following statement and information about various state boards' response to the ASWB ACE Approval Program. If you have specific questions about social work credits, please contact your board for more information. For more information about ASWB, please visit their website at www.aswb.org.
ACE provider approval is offered by ASWB as a service to boards, continuing education providers and licensees.
The acceptance of ACE approval by a particular jurisdiction can mean a variety of things. A board may choose to:
Some boards do not accept ACE approval. These boards may be required by legislation or regulation to approve each individual course or provider.
Some boards do not pre-approve courses or providers. In this case, courses are audited by the board when the individual social worker submits their CE documentation for licensure renewal. Licensed social workers should contact their individual state jurisdiction to review current continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. It is up to the licensee to be sure the content of the courses they take will meet the requirements of their board.
CE providers must always keep in mind that THE REGULATORY BOARD has the final say in determining the acceptability of a course offering. ACE Providers must contact the jurisdictional boards where their courses are offered to ensure their programs meet requirements for continuing education and license renewal.
