The Twelve Step Experience - A Course for Professionals

A 6 hour course which details the origins and development of 12 Step programs and examines the issues that evolve when referring clients to these community resources. This course is specially designed for individuals not in a personal 12 Step Recovery Program who work as counselors, parole/probation officers and law agency personnel, or any professional who may refer to these programs.   

 Goals/Objectives

The objective of this course is to provide or enhance knowledge of 12 Step programs and the issues that arise when referring individuals to these community resources. It is especially designed for the professional who lacks personal experience with 12 Step recovery.

By participating in this Distance Learning Course the trainee will::

  1. Obtain an understanding of the history of 12 Step recovery programs
  2. Develop an understanding of "recovery" vs. abstinence or discontinuance of problem behaviors
  3. Learn how to appropriately refer individuals to 12 Step programs
