Part 2 - Treatment Planning and Service Delivery

Two, 3-hour courses designed to provide insight and information about substance abuse/dependency and disabled populations.  Part 1 presents an overview of the population and the problems created by chemical use and abuse.  Part 2 investigates treatment and recovery information, with special attention being given to linkages and resources to assist in the long-term recovery needs of this population.

 Goals/Objectives

By participating in these Distance Learning Courses the trainee will:

  1. Gain increased comfort level and competence in dealing with substance abuse as a disability.
  2. Be better able to recognize substance abuse in consumers/customers/clients you serve, and how to address it with them.
  3. Understand the consequences of substance abuse for persons with disabilities.
  4. Gain exposure to a broad range of vocational rehabilitation strategies appropriate for a population having substance abuse as a primary or coexisting disability.
  5. Gain skills in developing and implementing consumer driven treatment plans.
  6. Be able to assist clients to achieve more positive outcomes.

Trainer, Clinician

Mary Ann Patrick bring many years of experience as both a counselor and a trainer to the DLCAS. Since receiving her MEd from North Texas State University, she has served in director's positions for a variety of substance abuse, mental health, and disability services in Collin county, Denton county and Central counties Mental Health and Mental Retardation systems in Texas. During her career she was also the Co-Founder and Director of Ministry to the Handicapped for the Diocese of Fort Worth.

Mary Ann has also been an instructor with Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas, as well as McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. She has been an active member of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals, and served on numerous boards, including the Certification Review Board. In addition to this disability DLC, she is the co-author of one of the ethics courses, and the preparation and testing course now being offered by the DLCAS. Most recently she was co-owner and ED for Recovery Works in Temple, Texas. During her professional career she has been active with TCADA and TAAP. At present she is a consultant in the addiction field and presents workshops on a variety of topics.
