Advanced Ethics - Special Topics

This 3-hour distance learning course will provide information on applying ethical principles and decision-making in treating clients with the following specific issues: cultural diversity, criminal justice involvement, adolescence, and HIV/AIDS. Participants will learn some ways to apply this information to their practice whether in psychology, counseling, social work or substance abuse treatment. Links to other resources regarding ethics and healthcare issues are available throughout the course. 

Goals/Objectives

By participating in this Distance Learning Course, the trainee will:

  1. Increase participants’ knowledge regarding the application of ethical principles to special client issues
  2. Increase knowledge and abilities in ethical decision-making with regard to cultural diversity, adolescent clients, criminal justice clients, and HIV/AIDS clients

Licensed Professional Counselor

Charlotte Chapman has been in the addictions field for twenty years. She has practiced as a counselor, supervisor and program director. Charlotte has been teaching ethics for the past ten years. She has published articles and courses on ethics for addiction professionals and has served on state and national certification boards and ethics committees. Charlotte is a licensed professional counselor, a licensed substance abuse treatment provider, a certified addictions counselor and a certified clinical supervisor in Virginia. She is currently the director of training for the Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center, Richmond, VA.
