Who is DLCAS.com?
The Distance Learning Center for Addiction Studies (DLCAS.com) is an internet based educational provider that allows participants the opportunity of obtaining educational credits toward state and/or national licensure or certification (either initial, basic education credits for licensure or certification or continuing education credits for relicensure or recertification). Founded in 1997 by Kevin Scheel and Vic Shaw, DLCAS.com currently has both the largest and most diverse number of addiction course offerings available for distance learning today. By way of distance education, a counselor or counselor-in-training can obtain part or all of their required credits in the convenience of your own home, at your own pace, within your own time frame. What is Distance Education?
Distance education is a guided set of learning activities that provide high quality content linked to current research and/or other related, widely accepted academic work, along with access to the instructor or training provider. The majority of state certifying or licensing bodies currently allow students to obtain some portion of their education credits toward original or continued licensure or certification by way of distance education. What separates our distance education from previously used self-guided study (or home study) is the use of Internet technology that allows the participant access to not only instructional staff, but other students as well. Using e-mail, frequently asked question (FAQ) files and bulletin boards, students and already credentialed counselors can actively participate with an instructor and ask questions that both the instructor and other participants can respond to. This difference allows the training activity to be more like an in-class training, without the added expense of travel, hotels, meals, and most importantly, time away from home or work.

Each individual course we offer will include a clear, concise description of the course content and objectives. Identification of the core tasks, knowledge, and skills with which the course deals will also be provided. Because of the unique nature of distance learning, there is no refund available for "non-attendance." It will be the responsibility of each participant to complete and return required materials (post test and evaluation) in a timely manner. Such guidelines and expectations will be spelled out in the introductory section of each training.
