The following is a list of state drug/alcohol credentialing approval bodies, as well as other credentialing body approvals for our distance learning courses.  We maintain regular contact with the approval bodies in all 50 states - please check back frequently if you don't see your state listed.  We also work to obtain approval from many of the other credentialing bodies for counseling professionals - if you have a group you'd like us to explore please contact us at coordinator@dlcas.com. ARKANSAS Certification 40  hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 20 hours Arkansas accepts distance learning for recredentialing hours (limit of 50% or 20 hours) but does not accept distance learning hours for basic (initial) credentialing at this time. CALIFORNIA Certification California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) 60 hours  every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED Provider Approved by CAADAC, Provider Number 0S-03-870-0609 for CEH's 60 hours California now accepts distance learning for recredentialing hours and for basic (initial) credentialing. They require a 315 hour program for the initial credential of which 270 educational hours can be obtained through approved distance learning programs. The 30-hour Clinical Supervision course is approved by the California Board and will be accepted for the Clinical Supervision Credential training requirement. DISCLAIMER The online addiction counselor courses offered by DLCAS.com partially fulfills the educational requirements for initial credentialing for Alcohol and Drug Counselors by the California Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CCBADC) (270 of the 315 hour requirement).  Candidates are also required to complete a 45 hour Practicum and a 255 hour Internship as required by CCBADC.  DLCAS does not provide the aforementioned practicum or externship.  It is the student's responsibility to meet the requirements of certification by the CCBADC.  Students may view the certification requirements by visiting www.caadac.org/certification. Effective for recertification year 2004-2005: 3 hours Ethics and 3 hours Confidentiality are required. COLORADO Colorado does not require continuing education to maintain their credential CONNECTICUT Certification 60 hours  every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 20 hours Connecticut requires at least 2 hours in Ethics for recredentialing. Connecticut also allows 124 hours for initial credentialing to be obtained by way of distance learning.  Of the required 360 hours, 240 hours must be specific to substance abuse.  Of these specific hours required, they allow distance learning to be used as follows: 60 of the 90 hours in counseling theory/techniques; 9 of the 18 hours in pharmacology; 15 of the 30 hours in assessment and treatment planning; 6 of the 12 hours in cross-cultural, special populations, and minority groups; 3 of the 6 hours in HIV/AIDS; 6 of the 12 hours in ethics. 25 of the "other" 120 hours can also be obtained by way of distance learning. DELAWARE Certification 60 hours  every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 20 hours Delaware also allows 20 hours of distance education to be obtained for their basic credentialing requirements DISTRICT of COLUMBIA Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED District of Columbia Certification Board for Professional Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors 40 hours 6 hours in Ethics are required every 2 years; 1/3 of recertification hours must be drug/alcohol specific The District of Columbia also accepts an unlimited number of hours of distance learning for initial certification. FLORIDA Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED Provider Approved by FCB Provider #5025-A; Provider #BAP-223 - for LCSW, LMHC, and LMFT 40 hours The 40 hours must include 4 hours in HIV/AIDS, 6 hours in Ethics, 2 hours in Domestic Violence, and 2 hours in Pharmacology. In addition, Florida now allows all of the hours required for basic credentialing to be obtained via distance learning for all levels of credentialing. GEORGIA Certification Georgia Addiction Counselors Association (GACA) 60 hours every 2 yrs* DLCAS.COM APPROVED Provider Approved NAADAC - Provider #000229 36 hours The 60 hours must include 6 hours of ethics, 6 hours of cultural diversity and 3 hours of HIV/AIDS education.  GACA also accepts 12 hours of distance education toward the basic credential. KENTUCKY Certification 50 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED   Kentucky requires 60 hours of education every three years for recredentialing. LOUISIANA Certification 48 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED AEP Number E069 48 hours Louisiana also accepts 270 hours of distance learning for initial certification hours. MAINE Licensure 50 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED   50 contact hours of continuing education must be completed 90 days prior to the November 30 renewal (biennially), i.e., 2003, 2005, 2007, etc. Maine also accepts an unlimited number of hours of distance learning for initial certification (Maine does require an Associate's degree as a minimum requirement - can have degree in any field, and DLCAS.com classwork would count toward the required 300 hours A&D training). MARYLAND Certification and Licensure 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 10 hours Maryland does not accept distance learning for initial certification requirements.  The 10 hours of distance learning accepted for relicensure can only be applied from the second renewal period forward - distance learning can not be used on the initial (first) relicensure period. MASSACHUSETTS Certification and Licensure 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 20 hours Massachusetts does not accept distance  learning for initial certification requirements for their CAC and CADAC credentials.  Massachusetts now offers a license though the state - the Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).  This credential will allow 100% of training hours to be gathered by way of distance learning.  To learn more about this credential, visit the following site: http://www.mass.gov/dph/bsas/licensing/ladccontact.htm. MICHIGAN Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs 20 hours must be AOD specific DLCAS.COM APPROVED 20 hours Michigan also allows 200 of the 270 hours needed for Certificated Addictions Counselor (CAC) credential, and 100 of the 180 needed for the Certified Advanced Addiction Counselor (CAAC) to be earned by distance learning. Ethics courses offered by DLCAS.com will not be accepted toward the ethics requirements for initial certification, but can be used for recredentialing purposes. MINNESOTA Licensure 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED for continuing education 40 hours Minnesota requires 18 hours of cultural training for your third renewal period as well as 6 hours of ethics.  Every renewal period after the third will require 6 hours of cultural training and 6 hours of ethics. Due to the statutes for licensure in the state of Minnesota, Minnesota does not accept distance learning for initial certification requirements. MISSISSIPPI Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 40 hours Mississippi also accepts an unlimited number of hours of distance learning for initial certification. MISSOURI Certification 60 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 60 hours Missouri also accepts an unlimited number of hours of distance learning for initial certification. MONTANA Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 40 hours Montana also accepts 270 hours of distance learning for initial certification hours from approved programs. NEBRASKA Certification 50 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 15 hours Please note - Nebraska does not accept the following courses for recredentialing: The Minnesota Model; Ethics for Clinical Supervisors; Any coursework from our Basic Training Series. All other courses are approved, including the course "Clinical Supervision in Alcohol and Drugs Abuse Counseling."  Please note that because Nebraska only allows 15 hours of distance education per renewal period, you would only be granted credit for one-half of this 30-hour course. Nebraska does not accept distance learning for initial certification requirements. NEVADA Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 20 hours NEW HAMPSHIRE Certification 48 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 10 hours New Hampshire does not accept distance learning for initial certification requirements. NEW JERSEY Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED New Jersey accepts an unlimited number of hours of distance learning for recredentialing. They do not accept distance learning for initial certification requirements, with the EXCEPTION of the 72-hour Chemical Dependency Associate (CDA) credential. Distance learning is also approved for the following specialty credentials: Certified Counselor Supervisor (CCS) and Co-Occurring Disorder Associate (CODA). NEW MEXICO Certification 40 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED   New Mexico requires 6 hours of ethics for all counselor recertifying, and 3 hours of supervision coursework for all supervisors. New Mexico also accepts 270 hours of distance learning for initial certification hours from approved programs. NORTH CAROLINA Certification 60 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 30 hours North Carolina also accepts 50% of the required hours for initial certification to be obtained by way of distance learning. OKLAHOMA Certification 50 hours every 2 yrs DLCAS.COM APPROVED 12.5 hours 8.15.02 - Oklahoma now accepts distance learning at this time.  You can obtain 12.5 hours toward recertification.  Oklahoma also allows 25% of the hours needed toward basic certification to be obtained online (this is equal to 45 hours). TENNESSEE Licensure 30 hours every year DLCAS.COM APPROVED 30 hours Tennessee does not accept distance learning for initial certification requirements.
